Don't start a French food recipe without reading it thoroughly, and don't skip any steps to save time. French is not a very forgiving cuisine, and many of the recipes took a great deal of effort to get just right. Giving yourself the time to do it right may mean the difference between passable cooking and excellent food.
French food isn't the easiest cuisine to master. You'll need a lot of practice, but don't be afraid to take your time, to experiment, and to find your own style. Even if you're not cooking Cordon Bleu dishes by next week, the point is to enjoy yourself.
